hedonic treadmill

Have you ever noticed how the things you thought would make you happy…only feel good for a little while?

There's a reason for that—it's called the hedonic treadmill. And most of us are stuck on it.

How do we break free from this endless loop?

By shifting focus. True happiness doesn't come from the next thing on your wishlist—it comes from appreciating what you already have, building meaningful connections, and finding joy in the process, not the outcome.

  1. I think the hedonic treadmill gets a bad rap. Is it responsible for us being unhappy a lot? Absolutely hands down, yes. However, the hedonic treadmill is responsible for a lot of human accomplishment, which is also part of being happy. I think we break free from the endless loop by appreciating the drive that pushes us to do things instead of settling and recognize the parts of that drive that are toxic.
