Voice and spirit
Which comes first,voice (and body,larynx etc. to speak it) or spirit? I think Faulkner may have it backwards.

I think that's a very interesting way to look at things, but I believe ultimately that we first have something to say which gives us cause to find the voice to express it. It's only when we have some conception of what beauty is that we can paint or make something beautiful, and it's only when we have a deep rooted feeling of the injustice of something that we can find the terms and ideas necessary to change it.
