Midterm report presentations '25

Select a topic related to the day's scheduled assigned reading OR to one of the RECOMMENDED texts on reserve in the library (focus on the first chapter or two, if you wish you can return to it for your final report presentation later)

  • The Word of Dog: What Our Canine Companions Can Teach Us About Living a Good Life (Rowlands) 978-1324095682 - because dogs, who can teach us much about attention and the present, make me happy.
  • Wanderlust: A History of Walking (Solnit) 978-0140286014 - because the peripatetic life makes me happy.
  • Moral Ambition (Bregman) 978-0316580359 - because there's more to life than happiness, and more to happiness than pleasure and complacency.
Plan to speak for about ten minutes, then give us a discussion question and direct the discussion. We'll plan to do two presentations (three if/when necessary) per class. Coordinate with your classmates who report on the same day to avoid redundancy. If you can find a suitable way to incorporate a podcast and/or video into your report presentation (using the James Walker Library production facilities on the 2d floor), you're welcome to do so.

Indicate your date and topic preference in the comments space below. First come, first served.

UPDATE, Sep 15: To the handful of you who've expressed no preference: please do so ASAP, or I will have to assign you one.

Another word for "moral ambition"… do what you love, what you're good at, and what the world needs. https://www.threads.com...
