Why the Popularity of ‘Squid Game’ Terrifies Me

What does the appeal of this violent, dystopian fantasy say about us?

Are there teenagers or young adults in your life? Ask them about "Squid Game." They've probably watched it. They've quite possibly loved it. And that terrifies me. --Frank Bruni

  1. As a teenager who has not watched "Squid Game," I don't know where the appeal is. However, I do not find it troubling that so many are watching it because I find it comparable to a train wreck.

  2. Considering that I have watched it, I was so appalled that I could not turn it off because it was also intriguing. The fact that people are really risking their lives at a chance to be rich and debt free really says a lot about today's society.

  3. Squid Game would trouble me a lot more if it were a reality show...but as it is just another over the top horror show...well, Halloween is coming up next Sunday. To me, it was not believable, other than the desperation of the game participants...that did seem real and maybe that is what is most horrifying about the show.
